What is the CDCP?

The CDCP is a government-funded initiative that aims to provide affordable and accessible dental care services to Canadian residents by covering a wide range of services. This program is designed to assist individuals who do not have dental insurance or who may not be able to afford dental care. This program wants to promote good oral health habits, prevent serious dental issues, and help Canadians maintain healthy gums and teeth.

Services covered include:

Cleaning, scaling (including root scaling), and fluoride treatment
Exams and x-rays
Fillings
Crown repairs
Root canal treatment
Partial and complete dentures
Tooth extractions
Minimal sedation
Some orthodontic services will be added in 2025
Before receiving care, our dentist will recommend the services you should acquire and also ensure it will be covered under the CDCP. Some services that require preauthorization will also become available in November 2024.

How Coverage Works

The CDCP will pay for services mentioned above when recommended by our dentist at the established CDCP fees. How much they’ll cover will depend on your net income or your family’s net income, therefore, you may still have to pay an additional charge. We’ll discuss these charges with you prior to treatment so you can make an informed decision on your oral health care. Applications for coverage began in December 2023 for certain age groups and continued through to June 2024. All remaining Canadian residents can apply for coverage in 2025.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for CDCP coverage, you must meet all of the eligibility requirements. This means that you:
Do not have dental insurance through your workplace or a family member’s workplace
Do not have pension benefits or a family member’s pension benefits
You did not purchase a group plan from an insurance company
You have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000
You are a Canadian resident
You have filed your tax return for the previous year
If you are receiving dental benefits under another government-funded program, you may still be eligible for the CDCP.

We’re Proudly Participating in the CDCP

It is not mandatory for dental offices to participate in the CDCP, however, we felt it appropriate to help patients in and around Thornton to receive the dental care they truly need and deserve. We want to make a significant impact on our community’s oral health and well-being.
